About City 1
City 1 is a sub-chapter of Buddha’s Light International Association of Victoria (BLIA Victoria). We are based at Fo Guang Yuan Art Gallery and our members are guided by the monastics of the Fo Guang Shan Buddhist Temples. Our sub-chapter was formed in 2007 when members from YAD (Young Adult Division) transitioned to start their own sub-chapter of BLIA Victoria.
Goals and Objectives
Our principal objective is to support BLIA YAD members and nurture them in their transition to becoming active members and future leaders of BLIA Victoria. In addition, we share the following overall goals and objectives with BLIA:
- Propagate Buddhist teachings through various cultural activities
- Nurture talents via education
- Benefit the societies through the charitable programs
- Purify the human hearts and minds through the Buddhist practices
Our members are multi-talented, multi-lingual, tech-savvy young professionals, working passionately to promote and share Humanistic Buddhism under the guidance of the monastics of Fo Guang Shan Buddhist Temples and Venerable Master Hsing Yun. We care deeply for our community, and participate in charitable activities such as Clean Up Australia Day, Wrap with Love, blood donations, etc.
Our members participate in self-development activities and improve their self-confidence by attending regular activities which include meditation, Buddhism study group and Buddhist Dharma Talks. In addition, our members are key players in organising the large public events such as Buddha’s Day & Multicultural Festival.
In March 2016, we organised the entertainment program for the Buddha’s Day & Multicultural Festival vegetarian fundraising banquet which involved detailed planning and execution to entertain over 400 guests and VIPs at Box Hill Town Hall.
We aim to help young professionals practice Humanistic Buddhism and hope that with calm and mindful practice the world will be a more peaceful and joyful place to live. If you are interested in joining us, please come to one of our activities to meet us. Our activities are published on the events section of the website or follow us on our BLIAV City 1 sub-chapter Facebook Page.
