About East 2
The Buddha’s Light International Association of Victoria (BLIA Victoria) East 2 sub-chapter is based at Fo Guang Shan Er You Temple in Box Hill. The East 2 sub-chapter was established in 2006 to accommodate the increasing number of Buddhist devotees particularly in the Melbourne eastern suburbs and together with the East 1 sub-chapter, to support the Fo Guang Shan Buddhist Temple and the propagation of Humanistic Buddhism.
We currently have over one hundred members, with diverse cultural and linguistic background, from all walks of life. Our members work together to promote Humanistic Buddhism and have contributed to the Australian multicultural community through various cultural activities and voluntary community work.
Our activities
We organise a variety of activities to foster a strong relationship amongst our members and within the people in our community. These activities also allow our members to improve their interpersonal skills and create space for self-development. Some of our activities include the annual City of Whitehorse Chinese New Year Celebration, Clean Up Australia Day, mid-autumn lantern festival, English and Chinese Dharma study group, Sutra copying, calligraphy and traditional dance classes.
On a larger scale, our members are heavily involved in organising the annual Buddha’s Day & Multicultural Festival. Moreover, our members have the opportunity to participate in various activities organised by the other sub-chapters including Wrap with Love.
